Arthritis- Mobility Issues with Your Dog
We hate seeing our dogs suffer. They can’t tell us where it hurts or how badly it feels. It effects their mobility and can effect behavior. If you don’t feel well, have constant pain you might be grumpy, lose sleep because of pain and it effects the quality of your life. You can make decisions to adopt a healthy diet and take supplements. Your dog can’t tell you but you’ll know by his behavior and movement.
“Unfortunately, osteoarthritis is a progressive disease and there is no known cure. Preventing the development of osteoarthritis through diet, exercise, and the use of protective joint supplements is the best way to keep your dog's joints healthy.” Akc.org
For 18 years we’ve provided long term boarding for thousands of dogs. Many have mobility issues and behaviors because of this. If a dog is in training, has reactivity or separation anxiety we immediately start to work on inflammation. Eight times out of ten we make significant improvement.
The steps I’m outlining is exactly what we’ve done for hundreds of dogs. If you follow the steps exactly you’ll definitely see improvement.
Exercise
It’s hard for dogs with severe arthritis to exercise however movement is important. When you start this program go slow. Give them time to feel better. Short slow walks.
Once your dog is feeling better increase walking time. Be consistent with exercise.
Diet
If your dog is overweight this can cause inflammation. It’s important to get their weight down. It’s better for your dog to be thinner if there’s mobility issues.
If weight is an issue I recommend Acana Fit & Light formula.

If you’re dog isn’t overweight feed grain free Acana Singles. Buy a few smaller bags and rotate the meats.

Digestive Health
Poor digestive health can cause severe inflammation. It also makes the it difficult for the gut to absorb the nutrients your dog needs.
For two weeks take their diet really clean with just cooked chicken or meat, some cooked vegetables such as broccoli, finely chopped romaine, a little raw organic sauerkraut. After two weeks you can follow the diet we use at the farm.
